Sinister interview…

by TheFAQQer on Mar.04, 2009, under W**k

Phone interview tomorrow – it’s the first one in a while.

In fact, it’s been 666 days since my last phone interview, which is a bit spooky really. Hopefully it won’t be too devilish – although I already know that one topic they want lots on is something I know next to nothing about.

Some in-depth reading to get through tonight, methinks…

Softly, softly, patchy monkey

by TheFAQQer on Mar.02, 2009, under W**k

Today’s struggle is finally getting round to patching my Oracle 11i instance. It’s never been patched (maybe they should have done that as a film – it can’t have been worse than this drivel), so should take a while – taking it from 11.5.0 up to 11.5.10.

I’ve also never done any eBusiness Suite patching before, so it’s all an experience.  I didn’t even know how to run it until a few minutes ago, and then found out that it has to be in Maintenance Mode before it can run.  Then I found out that it takes a while to create the catalog the first time (since it’s never had any patches applied).  And that when I installed it, I’d renamed “grep” to “egrep” as per my instructions, which didn’t work.

And now, all I can see is list after list after list of errors scrolling past the screen saying “unresolved external” something – it’s going too quickly to be able to catch any of it.

Oh dear :(   At least I took a snapshot of the virtual machine before I started patching….
